What is a Perinatal Emotional Check In?
A space to check in with you — not just the pregnancy, birth or baby.
Pregnancy, birth and becoming a parent can bring up a lot emotionally. Sometimes you don't need ongoing therapy; you might simply want somewhere safe to pause, talk, be listened to and make sense of what's happening for you.
There can be a lot of information and support available during pregnancy and early parenthood — but much of it understandably focuses on your pregnancy, your birth and your baby. This space is different. It's about you.
This is a chance to pause and check in with your emotional wellbeing, your experience and what you need — without needing to have a particular problem or diagnosis to justify being there.
The Perinatal Emotional Check-In is a one-to-one, bespoke, emotional wellbeing space during your prenatal and/or the postnatal period, where we can focus on whatever feels most relevant to you at that point in your journey.
This may be for you if:

“I previously had a difficult pregnancy and I’m terrified of being pregnant again”.
“ I’m having doubts about starting another round of fertility treatment but I’m afraid to tell the fertility centre”
“I don't feel like myself since becoming a mother.”
This pregnancy/post partum is bringing up former body image challenges”

This space hopes for you to come away feeling:
Heard — having had the space to talk openly about what you're experiencing.
Understood — with greater clarity around your emotions and what may be happening for you.
Empowered - having more confidence in your abilities
Less alone — knowing that your experience is valid and that you don't have to navigate it by yourself.
Grounded — with some practical tools or strategies that feel supportive for you.
Informed — with a greater understanding of perinatal mental health, matrescence or the changes you're experiencing.
Clearer — with a better sense of what you need and what support might be helpful.
Supported — whether that's through one check-in, further sessions or connecting you with other appropriate support.
A little lighter. A little clearer. A little more connected to yourself.
You decide how much support you need.
You might come for one session because there is something specific you'd like to talk through. Your birth story may need more than one session and decide for more sessions. You might decide that another check-in would be useful at a different stage of your pregnancy or motherhood.
How it differs from a Psychotherapy/Counselling session:
Psychotherapy/Counselling explores difficulties in greater depth over time over ongoing sessions. It can involve deeper exploration of patterns, relationships, trauma and emotional difficulties and often involves working towards longer-term therapeutic goals.
The Perinatal Emotional Check In is a once off or occasional session. It is focused on one stage or your current experience. It is not a psychological/mental health assessment or diagnostic service. It is a supportive wellbeing space, focused on reflection, emotional support and helping you identify what you might need at this point in your journey. It is supportive and therapeutic in nature, but is not psychotherapy. If it becomes apparent that you would benefit from more specialised or ongoing mental-health support, we can discuss appropriate next steps collaboratively.
Before your session, we'll have a brief free conversation about what has brought you to the check-in, what you hope to get from it and if this offering is the right space for you. This allows us to tailor the session to you. Sessions are €70 for 50 minutes.
